School Identity

The school’s identity is encapsulated by its name and philosophy, its vision and mission statements, its core values, and its logo and anthem.

Our Logo

Our logo is a shield comprising the name of the school at the top, an open book, a cross and the school motto. The shield is an emblem of protection and success; the book stands for teaching and learning, which is the core essence of the school. The cross represents the school’s Christian foundation and heritage, and of sacrifice as the fulcrum of love, perseverance (patience) in the midst of difficulties and suffering, and assured victory in Jesus Christ. The school motto is “learning, godliness and service”. It depicts that a life of probity, righteousness and love should be at the center of human endeavor; and that at the end of all learning, both within and outside of formal schooling, should be worthy service to God and humanity.

Naming and Philosophy

The school derives its name from a small Israelite town of Bethany, which is about 4km from Jerusalem. According to Gospel narratives, the town was a place of rest, teaching, learning, love, hospitality, friendship, transformation and miraculous manifestations of the power of God. This was evidenced by the raising to life of Lazarus, brother to Mary Magdalene and Martha (Jesus’ friends), who had been dead for four days. Bethany was also the place of Christ’s ascension. The case of Lazarus inspires the belief in the school that God can bring to life that which is dead in the reckoning of man. Hence, our philosophy that any educable child that attends Bethany College, notwithstanding the entry behaviour, can become a star and beacon, and achieve excellence in scholarship, conduct, career and service. At Bethany College there is no racial, cultural, religious, gender, social or economic discrimination. Every child matters, and is treated with dignity.

Infrastructural Facilities

Bethany College has excellent infrastructural facilities, and a warm social and psychological climate that is conducive to teaching and learning. It has spacious, well-furnished classrooms, which are well ventilated, complemented with fans and well illuminated generously with electrical bulbs. The school has a modern computer laboratory with each student to a computer with full internet facilities. There is steady 24/7 electricity supply powered by solar inverter. Other facilities include a modern science laboratory, and library. There is regular running water to service the students’ toilet, the laboratories and for general use. Bethany College is located in a serene, quiet environment, which is largely dominated by fenced schools, devoid of the noise, distraction and pollution generated by human or vehicular traffic.
